How to Bring a Creative Event to Life at Your Workplace

Organising a creative event at work is a brilliant way to bring people together, help them relax, and spark a bit of creativity. I’ve run lots of these events, and they’re always a bit different depending on the group and the setting. Let me walk you through how it works and what you need to think about if you’d like to organise one.

One of the things I love most about my work is the variety. I get to teach all sorts of groups—adults, teenagers, and occasionally even kids—and each brings a unique energy to the experience.

It’s exciting to adapt my teaching style and materials to suit each group, whether that means creating a calm, reflective space for adults or tapping into the playful, creative spirit of younger participants. Of course, this often means lugging bags of art supplies all over the east of England and London! I always like to bring everything we might need to make the session special—paints, paper, pencils, charcoal, wooden boards, and reference pictures. It’s a bit of an adventure every time, especially when I’m heading to a corporate or group event, which I usually host about once a month.

Alongside these, I also run my regular art classes in Cambridge, which are a grounding and consistent part of my schedule. The mix keeps my work fresh, exciting, and full of creative possibilities!

The First Step: Getting in Touch

It usually starts with an email. Someone reaches out and says something like, “Hi, we’ve got this big event coming up. Can you bring a creative activity to it?” From there, I’ll ask a few key questions:

• Is it in person or online?

• Where’s the event being held?

• How many people will be taking part?

• How long do you want the session to be?

Most of my classes last between 1–2 hours. I also need a bit of extra time before and after to set up and tidy up.

Tailored to Your Group

I offer a variety of classes, from watercolour painting and pen drawing to charcoal and upcycled art. My Team building art workshops are all beginner-friendly, so no one needs to feel intimidated. But it’s always helpful to know the group’s experience level—whether they’re total beginners, experienced artists, or somewhere in between.

I’ve worked with all sorts of groups, including teenagers and vulnerable adults, so I’m happy to tailor the session to meet the group’s needs.

Location and Travel

While I’m based in Cambridge, I travel quite a bit, often to London and other areas. I’m also very experienced in running online events. If travel is involved, I’ll add the cost to my quote.

Materials Sorted

One thing you won’t need to worry about is supplies—I bring everything. I’ve got high-quality materials, and I try to be as sustainable as possible by reusing what I can. This way, we can work with nice materials without blowing the budget.

If you’ve got tables and chairs, that’s great, but I’ve also run sessions where everyone sat on cushions on the floor, and it was lovely!

Goody Bags

Some organisations like to give participants a little goody bag with art supplies—a sketchbook, paints, brushes, that sort of thing. If that’s something you’d like, I can put together kits for £30–50 per person, depending on what you’d like included.

On the Day

I’ll arrive about 30 minutes to an hour before the session starts to get everything ready. I like to set up the materials in a way that looks inviting and makes people feel comfortable.

During the class, I guide everyone step by step. I’ve developed lots of tutorials over the years, and I use those as a starting point. I also walk around to offer individual help and demonstrations. People can ask questions, try things out, and really get a feel for the materials.

Why We Do It

The aim is simple: to help people find their creative flow. It’s all about relaxing, having fun, and creating something they feel proud of. A lot of people I work with haven’t made art since school, and they’re always surprised by what they can achieve with a bit of guidance.

After the Event

When the session’s over, I’ll tidy up while participants take their artwork home. If you’d like, I can also send a follow-up video tutorial so they can keep exploring their creative side.

Sound like something you’d like to do? Get in touch, and let’s make it happen!
