Learn Creative Figure Drawing with Markers, Pens, and Highlighters.
How to draw people:
Hello, fellow artists!
Today, I’m excited to share a fun and dynamic drawing technique using markers, pens, and highlighters. This method is perfect for capturing lively figures with a burst of colour.
I will teach you how to draw people in a loose, stress free way.
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned artist, this technique will add a fresh twist to your sketchbook.
In this video, I demonstrate how to use blobs of colour as a base and then add detailed lines to create expressive figures. It's a fantastic way to loosen up and let your creativity flow.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Here’s what you’ll need for this activity:
Markers in various colours
Pens (I recommend fine liners or gel pens)
Highlighters for a pop of brightness
Sketchbook or drawing paper
Step 2: Creating the Blob
Start by making random blobs of colour on your paper with your markers. These blobs should roughly represent the shapes of the figures you plan to draw, helping to set up the proportions. Don’t overthink this step—just let the colours flow. Use different colours to add variety and excitement to your drawings.
Step 3: Adding the Lines
Once your blobs are dry, it’s time to bring your figures to life. Use a pen to draw lines over and around the blobs. Focus on capturing the essence of the figure rather than getting bogged down with details. The goal is to create loose, expressive lines that complement the colourful bases.
Step 4: Highlighting and Final Touches
Now, grab your highlighters and add some final touches. Highlight areas that you want to stand out or add some extra flair to your figures. This step is all about having fun and experimenting with colours and lines.

Final Thoughts

Happy drawing!
